CampusBear Terms and Conditions | Textbook Buyback Policies
1. Introduction
Welcome to CampusBear. These Terms and Conditions form a binding legal agreement between CampusBear (“the Website,” “we,” “us”) and you (“User,” “Seller”) when you use our services related to textbook buybacks. By accessing and using the Website, you agree to comply with these terms.
2. Nature of a Buyback Quote
A quote is a conditional offer, not a completed purchase. When you submit books through our website, our system generates a price quote based on the ISBN and stated condition you provide. This quote reflects the amount we are prepared to pay subject to physical inspection of the books upon arrival at our facility.
No sale is completed, and no payment obligation arises, until your books have been received and have passed inspection. Submitting a quote, printing a shipping label, or shipping books to us does not constitute a completed transaction.
If books do not pass inspection, they are returned to you at our expense and no payment is made.
3. Quantity Limits
Standard buybacks are limited to two (2) copies per ISBN.
This limit applies per customer account, not per order. Submitting additional copies across multiple orders, multiple email addresses, or multiple accounts does not increase this limit. Copies exceeding this limit may be declined at inspection and returned to you.
If you wish to sell more than two copies of a title, you must submit through our bulk program at campusbear.com/bulk. Bulk submissions are priced separately and are not subject to the two-copy limit.
4. Unacceptable Books
We do not purchase:
Books with water damage, mold, or significant odors
Books with missing, loose, or disorganized pages
Books marked “sample edition,” “not for sale,” “complimentary copy,” “exam copy,” or similar
Partial or incomplete volume sets
Extensively marked workbooks, lab manuals, or study guides
Books with damaged covers, bindings, or missing pages
Used access cards or visible codes
Teacher’s, instructor’s, or professional editions
Custom editions designed for specific colleges or regions
International editions where importation or resale is restricted
Books violating copyright laws or lacking a copyright page
Print-on-demand books, rebound books, or i-clickers without batteries
Books we are unable to verify as authentic (see Section 6)
5. Inspection and Grading
All books are inspected by our warehouse team upon arrival.
Following inspection, one of three outcomes applies:
Accepted: payment is issued at the quoted amount
Revised offer: where condition differs from what was stated, a reduced offer is presented for your acceptance or decline
Declined: the book does not meet our acceptance criteria and is returned to you at our expense
You may decline a revised offer, in which case the books are returned to you at no cost.
6. Authenticity Policy
CampusBear strictly enforces textbook authenticity. Certain titles are subject to heightened verification due to known counterfeiting activity in the market.
If a book received shows indications of being counterfeit, it will not be returned to the sender. The book will instead be forwarded to the publisher for verification. If the publisher declares the book counterfeit, we will provide the customer’s information to the publisher upon request. Counterfeit books will be destroyed and will not be compensated.
Accounts associated with counterfeit books will be terminated.
7. Price Quotes
Standard buyback quotes are valid for seven (7) days from issuance.
Bulk quotes are valid for fifteen (15) days from issuance.
Books must be shipped within the validity period. Orders not shipped within this window are automatically cancelled.
Quotes may be adjusted based on discrepancies in condition, ISBN mismatch, edition mismatch, or differences between the quantity quoted and the quantity received.
Quoted prices reflect market conditions at the time of issuance and are not guaranteed against subsequent market movement.
8. Shipping
Prepaid shipping labels are provided for all accepted buyback orders. Labels must be used within the quote validity period.
Carrier selection is at our discretion. Labels are generated using the most cost-effective service available. If a seller requests a specific carrier, any additional cost may be deducted from the final payout.
Sellers are responsible for retaining tracking information. We are unable to trace shipments for which no tracking number can be provided.
Bulk shipments: boxes must not exceed 40 lbs each. Sellers must provide accurate box weights and dimensions. If actual weights or dimensions exceed those declared, any carrier adjustment charges may be deducted from the final payment.
Books shipped without a valid, active order, including against expired or cancelled quotes, may not be eligible for payment. Sellers must submit a new order before shipping.
Books declined at inspection are returned to you at our expense.
CampusBear is not liable for loss or damage occurring in transit to our facility.
9. Returns
No returns are permitted on books where a revised quote has been accepted.
Where a revised offer is declined, books are returned at no cost to the seller.
10. Payment
Payments are issued within four (4) business days following inspection.
Payments are processed through our payment provider, Tremendous. Following inspection, a secure payout link is emailed to the address on your account. You must open this link and select a payout method, PayPal, Venmo, Cash App, or direct bank transfer to receive your funds. No payment is transferred until this step is completed.
Paper checks are not offered for orders less than $250.
Payout links are subject to expiration in accordance with our payment provider’s terms. Sellers are responsible for claiming payouts in a timely manner. Expired or unclaimed payouts may not be reissued.
Sellers are responsible for the accuracy of the email address and payout details they provide. CampusBear is not responsible for payments delivered to, or claimed at, an incorrect email address or payout account supplied by the seller. Where a payout has been claimed, we are unable to reverse or reissue it.
Payout emails are sent by Tremendous rather than CampusBear and may be filtered into spam or promotional folders.
11. General Provisions
Users are responsible for providing accurate personal, shipping, and payment details.
CampusBear reserves the right to decline any submission at its discretion.
CampusBear reserves the right to limit or terminate accounts that repeatedly submit ineligible inventory or attempt to circumvent stated limits.
